"Send To" & default email
Today I installed a new email program and changed my default setting to the
new program. How can I get the right-click "send to" command to send a file to the new email program instead of the old one? (note: I can't uninstall the old program because it's part of an integrated Netscape suite). I recall that under File Types in Folder Options there was an entry something like URL:mailto Protocol, where you can browse to the .exe you want to use to open the program, but the entry seems to have disappeared even though something (force of habit maybe?) is still sending file attachments to the old email program. |

Try this:
Click Start Settings Control Panel Internet Options Programs tab. Under Internet Programs E-mail, click the drop-down box and select the e-mail app you want to be the default. Click Apply, OK. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Roger Fink" wrote in message ... Still no URL:mailto Protocol, but until there is a problem it's just one more sleeping dog to let lay. |

And the new mail program is...?

Uh oh, orthodoxy issue here (actually you guys are more tolerant, wait,
let's say, 'overtly exhibit more tolerance', than some of the Netscape/Moz Doom3ers). My experience with both Houses of Worship has been that the more wisdom/insight an individual has to impart, the less dogmatic he is in imparting it. You help make that case. New program is actually a legacy one, T-Bird 0.6. PA Bear wrote: And the new mail program is...? AFAIK, there should be an option in Thunderbird Tools Options to make it
the default Mail Client. (Now, if you haven't designated Firefox as the default browser, more power to you. I suggest you post to a Thunderbird/Firefox-specific newsgroup.) Actually I don't have Firefox, for which I occasionally get an earful. I'm
glad you posted back because I didn't emerge out of the T-Bird installation quite as unscathed as I thought - got a Windows problem. Whether in OE for newsgroups or T-Bird for mail, whenever I click a link inside these programs up pops IE, even though Netscape 7.02 is set as the default browser. I scrolled through the registered file types to see what was listed as opening with IE but didn't see anything obvious to change, so I'm wondering if maybe I need to add a new item. Don't tell me you're using Linux, too?!
I have no idea whatsoever, Roger. You want to have a non-MS browser and another, unrelated and non-MS mail client as the defaults...in an MS Operating System. People have slashed their wrists over less-complicated problems, my friend. If http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297878 doesn't help at all, I don't know what might. I suggest you try sticking with a Thunderbird/Firefox or Netscape/(Communicator?) combination...or post to Netscape and Firefox/Thunderbird newsgroups. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) Roger Fink wrote: Actually I don't have Firefox, for which I occasionally get an earful. et tu, Bear? All worked fine with NS7.02 mail, the problem was, it's lousy
mail. No matter, I shall plug away. PA Bear wrote: Don't tell me you're using Linux, too?! I have no idea whatsoever, Roger.
