Win98 safe mode disabled
Despite all apparent knowledge and authority that I can
find on the subject, safe mode has been disabled. I am working with a PC which was originally setup to login to a domain, but I don't have other PC's with Server OS's. The most I can get set up is a peer-to-peer network. It has many administrative restrictions (presumably in the registry), the worst of which appears to be the disabling of safe mode. I have found every tutorial and how to article on the subject of safe mode, which usually have about 4 methods to entering it, and none have any effect. Does anyone know how this could happen or how I can turn it off? My problem is that I cannot get past the Microsoft Networking login screen. So, I need safe mode to go in and change the login client to windows login or something nice and accessible like that. |

You need to add BootKeys=1 to the msdos.sys file, if you
can get at it. This will enable you to press f8 at start- up and choose safe mode. Try booting to a floppy disc - attrib -h -r c:\msdos sys - edit c:\msdos.sys - save it - attrib +h +r c:\msdos.sys -----Original Message----- Did you try clicking the cancel button? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "trickstar" wrote in message ...
