Default problem with playing windows media 7.1--Screen remains black

running windows 98se--when attempting to play aol news video-media player
remains black---i lowered hardware accelaration-- updated windows--(Screen
still comes up-(Unable to access this media, you may not be connected to the
network)--I clicked details, which showed--(No more information is
available). Contacted aol, who had me perform the above. Windows media
player screen still remains black. Anyone with a possible solution, or who
had the same problem and was able to correct it--please reply to this post.
