Default Windows Explorer shell problem

Hello,
I've come across a shell problem that I've never seen in any vs. of Windows.
I need some help, a few good lnternet links for Windows Explorer. I have
Googled, but unsuccessful to connect w/any helpful info.

This is what happens... TOTAL lockup of Windows Explorer, UNABLE to Browse,
period.

Open a program, Word, Excel, choose open, browser Window opens but locks up,
unable to browse period.
Or... OE, insert picture, browser window opens, but total lockup, unable to
browse.

Thank you kindly, I appreciate any and all help and any experience anyone
has had w/this problem.
