Default Most Common Problem With Floppy Disk Drives

Hi,

I have three computers that developed problems with reading floppy disks.
Note: This problem occurred at a different time for each computer.

What is the most common problem with floppy disk drives?

Thanks in advance, Brad

The disks also just plain get old, or at least it seems that way to me. I've
dug out packs shrink-wrapped packs I bought ten years ago and maybe half of
them are any good. I *think* the media just ages.

Also, even if the drive doesn't technically wear out, it can just get dirty
from cooling airflow.

1. The drives do wear out.

2. The disks themselves also wear out. Unlike hard drives, the
read/write heads in a floppy disk drive actually touch the disk
surface, resulting in wear.
