Which operating system are you running? Services.exe is not part of Win
Me although it does form part of NT based operating systems such as XP.
Services.exe is a name used by several viruses and trojans including
Neveg.B (See
http://www.symantec.com/security_res...26-99&tabid=2).
Have you checked your system for unwanted malware using an AV application
with current signatures?

Thanks and no i haven't run an AV, yet. I teach ICT & this is a problem of
one of my learners, so i am going to have to go 'round and make sure the OS
is Windows ME like she says. I will let you know. Thank you very very much.

Please let me know what you discover. If the system is indeed Win Me we
can take it from there but in that case my first recommendation would be
to carry out formal AV scans and also look for the file services.exe and,
if possible, remove it from the start up axis as a priority.

Kim,

Thanks for returning and completing the thread. It would appear that
either this was a false alarm or that the users AV app removed a viral
services.exe leaving the system in clean state. Which doesn't matter just
as long as their system is now working correctly and without error
messages.

Thanks,

There is still a problem. She has Windows ME, scans show no services file.
What is happening is that when she uses Outlook Express on dial-up it
disconnects before she can type anything so consequently she is using
attachments. Should i update her applications?
Thanks Kimla10

Does the user perhaps have OE configured to disconnect following sending
and receiving? See Tools | Options | Connection.

As I'm sure you appreciate a user doesn't have to be on-line to compose a
message, only to send or receive.
