I have a hard disk with three partitions: C:E:. I would like to combine
them all into one partition only C:. Is there a reliable/recomended software that I can use to do this that will not destroy any data? Thanks. |

Even with BING, you can't "combine" the partitions. Depending on how full
they are, you'll probably need to do several steps -- shrink this, then expand that, then boot to Windows and move files, then go back... When the files are all out of the partition, delete it, expand another.... I just did something similar in the opposite direction, turning a half-full 200GB drive into 6 smaller ones. Tedious but worth it. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "glee" wrote in message ... Thanks very much Gary, but most of my program files are on the E: drive which
I would like to delete. I would like all of my files on a C: drive. If I start adjusting the sizes of the partitions and moving files around - that's all very good, but one can't really move program files around willy nilly can you? I mean without adjusting registry entries? Or un-installing and re-installing? "Gary S. Terhune" wrote: Even with BING, you can't "combine" the partitions. Oh... I always keep OS and Apps on C:\. On D:\ I put Temp and Temporary
Internet Files, the rest of the partitions are for data only. No, you will have a difficult time doing what you propose without reinstalling apps. You move the files, then reinstall the apps. You *can* try a Change-of-Address type utility that supposedly finds all the configurations files and Registry entries and updates them -- but I've never found one that was perfect, especially when it comes to more complicated apps and suites like Office. Reinstalling is the only way to fix those right. Note that you can only do the shrink/move/delete partitions trick decently if you still have a significant amount of free space on the drive. If it's packed pretty well already, it can be difficult, even impossible to rearrange things satisfactorily. At best, you will be working at it for long hours, even days. Personally, given the added dimension of Apps on E:\, I would at this point be seriously considering clean installing a new C:\ with the OS and Apps -- which again requires that you have at least a couple of gigs free to start with. -- Gary S.
