Mike, Joan, Web and SS...
So, two replies, virtually identical, one posted to the
microsoft.public.windowsme.general newsgroup on the news.microsoft.com newserver and the other to the same newsgroup but on the msnews.microsoft.com news server and, lo and behold, both messages appear on both servers. From the headers, the posting paths are identical news.microsoft.com Date: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 16:16:46 +0100 Path: TK2MSFTNGP01.phx.gbl!TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl msnews.microsoft.com Date: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 16:20:55 +0100 Path: TK2MSFTNGP01.phx.gbl!TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl Proving, to me at least, that the two news servers addresses are in fact the same server. Jeanette, Your problem has to be local to your PC and I feel is probably hiding somewhere in your registry in the HKCU\Identities\{ big ugly number }\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0 key, most likely somewhere in the Rules\News sub-key. -- Mike Maltby jeanette wrote: news.microsoft.com is the same server as msnews.microsoft.com |

Mike's 'groan' barely scratches the surface .. ... to call it 'awful' would be high praise indeed! Such an accolade - I feel very humbled. My greatest talent is that not only can I make a worst fist of things than most, I can do it far cheaper!! Why pay huge salaries to the politicians and the barons of industry? The going-rate? Just unnecessary and I'd throw in a 37.5 hr. week with no golden goodbye clause at no extra cost. What a bargain! However the spectre of a big top in Mudchester's Piccadilly Circus can only be a sight to behold. Mart "Arturo Seis" wrote in message ... Mart, Mike's 'groan' barely scratches the surface. I have a couple of photographs of Piccadilly Circus that made me wince when I thought of your quip. I shall never be able to look at them in quite the same way again! Now, if you'd been taking the name of the Mudchester Piccadilly in vain, that would be a different matter. But please don't misunderstand me, Arturo Mart wrote: D**n - you beat me to Lilly's "Circus" link, HL. oh,, one thing tho'.. why do you feel my problem has anything to
do o/e 5? as mentioned above registry. Jeanette, I don't. vbg You are however posting using Outlook Express and the registry key(s) I mentioned are where the rules are located be it OE5, OE5,5 or OE6 that you are using. From the headers of your post X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106 which tells me that you are using Outlook Express 6, not fully patched however as the latest version for use with Win Me would show X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1478. 6.00.2800.1106 is the version that is part of IE6 SP1 (released late 2002) but without the subsequent Cumulative Security patches for OE, the last of which was released in April 2004 [KB837009, MS04-013: Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express] which takes OE to 6.00.2800.1409. To go to 6.00.2800.1478 would mean you then installing the later Cumulative Update for Outlook Express 6 SP1 [KB887797] that was released in December 2004. Incidentally I am NOT saying that installing the missing patches would solve the problem you are seeing. Likewise I'm not suggesting you dive in to the registry. Unfortunately I'm at a loss as to what to suggest to help you as we seem to have explored all avenues. -- Mike M jeanette wrote: huuuuuuuuuuuge siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh,,, in that case, i have no answers at all. the last time i posted here, all was fine, this time, its all kaput. i am not a 'registry' person and wouldnt even know what to look for. thanks for your time mike J oh,, one thing tho'.. why do you feel my problem has anything to do o/e 5? as mentioned above registry. |

http://www.insideoe.com/tips/ and
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm are a couple of great places to find the solution to issues with OE. I'm not saying that you will find the answer to your issue, but, there is access to folks that may. If Mike is perplexed, that's not good! Hopefully, you can find the answer soon.....best wishes. S'cuse buttinski Mike, - just wonder if Jeanette actually did the reset you
(very) briefly mentioned in your first post. (Unless I've missed something g) Apologies in advance if you've already tried this Jeanette. If so please ignore, otherwise :- In Outlook Express, highlight the winme.general newsgroup (not the thread) right-click and select Properties, then the Local tab and choose the Reset option. (which will clear ALL contents of the winme.general newsgroup). Click to another group and then return to the winme.general group. Hopefully your missing post will have now returned. Mart snip |

ROFL!! JUST FINISHED THEM!!
And I smell like a pickle factory.....but damn, they look good. Got 15 jars for 2 days of labour, but well worth it. I think the slicing and dicing is the worst part......but I *seconded* Ron to do the sterilization chore (be quiet, Loon) and that worked a lot better. Now back to the more mundane things in life.
