Hi ms
I use CCleaner; but suggest only run ccleaner immediately before shutting down. If you use the "clean at bootup" option, it will disable System Restore and you will get a "cannot run SR, restart your computer" message. Of course if you run Ccleaner at startup you will emulate the well known Oozlum bird and run around in ever decreasing circles ... Also if you run Spybot, suggest disable Teatimer, this prevents SR from making System Restore points although you can still make Manual Points Mike M may recall these points from an earlier thread started by me earlier this year ... delboy Delboy "ms" wrote in message ... Mike M wrote: Two points and a possible solution. 1) The command is SCANREG /RESTORE, note the space between scanreg and the forward slash. 2) Using TweakUI will not have removed the Accessories folder. TweakUI does not include such functionality which would involve the deletion of a folder. TweakUI doesn't delete folders, just make changes to the registry. First check that the Accessories folder wasn't accidentally dragged into another folder on the Start Menu. If not then you will need to rebuild the folder by recreating the folder Accessories in Windows\Start Menu\Programs and then populating it with the sub-folders you require such as System Tools and then making shortcuts to the various utilities and placing those shortcuts in either the Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories folder or its sub-folders. For example the System Tools folder simply contains shortcuts to applications rather than the application concerned so all that it necessary, if you cannot find the folder, is to create another and then populate it with new shortcuts to the various applications concerned. I've listed below the various entries and the targets for the shortcuts. Thanks Mike. Didn't realize it's just a normal folder that I can create in the usual way. And I will run System Restore to see about it. Again, several experts say to dump it. scanreg: I typed scanreg... just as in a MS appnote, although I use it frequently in W98SE. Pretty sure I had it right, but will try again. Item I forgot to reply to Jack's post, I ran the latest Stinger, it found nothing. (I assume you folks know about that one?) And used CCleaner to clean out the garbage from previous owner. I will fight the password screen, but that's the usual stuff. On my machines, it has never been easy, and it was caused on this machine after (I did something ?) I used Tweakui. Mike S |

It works so well I removed 3 other cleaners. And yes, I disabled TeaTimer long ago, even w/o a firewall, I still got error messages. I use WinPatrol instead. Mike Sa |
