Default Error messages

I am trying to install a printer driver, but keep getting the message"rundll
has caused an error in setupx.dll". I run a 1Mhz 4 years old Fujitsu. Any
assistance would be appreciated. I have recently purchased and run Registry
Mechanic with a view to this helping me solve this problem, but to no avail.

Details details details.

Please, as I mentioned in response to your e-mail, you need to post
details of the make and model printer, how it is connected to your PC and
the source (CD or download, etc) and version of the driver you are trying
to install.

Thanks again Mike. The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R300.Connection is
USB. Source is CD, and the software is version 5.41. The error message now
reads "setup has caused an error in setupx.dll. Hope this helps

Thanks,

As it happens I've an R200 but not used with a PC running Win Me. I'll
try and see if I can generate a similar error message and if so let you
know what might be causing it. If I discover the cause of this error
message I'll try and post back tomorrow.

At what exact point are you seeing this error message during the driver
install. For example what selections did you make at the start of the
install. Also do you have any other usb devices and if so do they work
correctly?

The error message comes up at the start of the install. I click the ignore
button to carry on with the install but nothing happens. After I close, the
installation carries on with the same error occuring ( I click ignore but it
does not respond)
another two times, 26% through the install, then again at 100%. After
closing it says the installation was successful, which it wasnt --

Again please if possible answer all my questions. So once again please:
a) What selections did you make at the start of the install?
b) Also do you have any other usb devices and if so do they work
correctly?

It is absolutely essential if you want others to try and help you to
provide complete answers as far as you can to their questions.

Selections are as follows:
Select language, select custom install - driver only, install begins then
error message, exit setup, install recommences, another error message, exit
setup, install carries on with license agrrement, click accept and installing
driver progress bar goes to 100%, then after 5 - 10 seconds, error message
again, exit setup, screen reads congratulations you have successfully
installed etc,etc.

I have a scanner connected via USB (OK).

I have also loaded this software onto my laptop (Win 2000) with no problems
whatsoever.

Thanks Gordon,

I'll try and get back to you later after I've played a bit. As I
mentioned I've an R200 here which I use to print CDs and use it without
problem from a PC that's running XP Pro SP2. I'm trying to find the time
to put it on a Win Me box to see if I can create the error you are seeing.

Oh. Having visited the Epson site I see the R300 drivers for Win Me are
different than those for the R200. Nevertheless I will still try to
create the error you are seeing. Also since the printer shouldn't be
connected when installing the drivers I should still be able to try
installing the R300 Win Me drivers as well.
