Install the Visual Basic 6.0 Run-times, from the link in this MSKB article, to
install a current version of that file along with its related library files -
VBRun60sp6.exe installs Visual Basic 6.0 SP6 run-time files:

I downloaded the file then when I tried to open it I get a Visual Basic 6.0
Runtime Files box which tells me ...Error registering the ocx
C:\Windows|system\OLEAUT32.dll....

Any other suggestions? I really appreciate your taking the time to help.

Try installing MDAC 2.5 SP3 from he
http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downl...ault.aspx#MDAC

BEFORE you install it, do this:
Reboot.
Open the Temp folder and delete all Temp files:
-Click StartRun, type %temp% and click OK.
-Press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Delete.

Delete the Temporary Internet Files:
Click Start Settings Control Panel Internet Options General tab.
Click the Delete Files button, then put a checkmark in the box to Delete all
offline content, and click OK, and OK.

Close all open windows and running apps.
Disable your anti-virus and screensaver.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and End Task on everything except Explorer and Systray.
Then run the MDAC 2.5 installer.

I have the feeling there is more to the story than you are telling. When did the
problem start, and what happened prior to it occurring? I assume you have checked
for malware with the apps you mentioned, after first installing the latest updates
for them (Ad-Aware, SpyBot, PC-Cillin)....did they find any malware? If so what was
it, and how was it removed?
