No mouse
When I start the computer up there is no cursor. If I
start it in Safe Mode I do get a cursor and it works fine. I have an error message which shows up during normal startup which reads: Qttask has caused an error in Kernall ???? I have run Stinger and CWShredder and no problems appeared. Suggestions? Thank you. |

Thank you. Use QuickTime's Options/Preferences to stop it from "Loading at Windows Startup"... if for some strange reason you actually need that feature, then uninstall and reinstall QuickTime. This will fix your Qttask error message and (probably) fix your cursor thing. Rick |

QuickTime is one of those programs that like to take over your entire system... the mouse-connection was a shot-in-the-dark (which missed, apparently). You mean "cursor" as "pointer", right? (technically, I think the cursor is for text)... does the mouse still work ? ControlPanel/Mouse... maybe rummage through there... there's an option to hide the mouse while typing, for instance, or find the mouse by pushing the Ctrl key (if you activate that option). If no luck, there, try at ControlPanel/System/DeviceManager (view by type) take a look see if you have a mouse listed and if there's no question marks or rex 'X's on it... and if you bring up Properties for it, does it say "working fine" or what. PS2 or USB mouse ? Rick Also, I could not find a options/preferences section for my Quicktime. It's there somewhere... doesn't have to be labelled "Options/Preferences" maybe "Tools" or "Configuration" or something. And the option may not be exactly "Load at Windows Startup", either: I don't have QT currently installed and can't remember offhand. And no I don't need it. Right now I have just uninstalled it. The following are 3 pretty comprehensive pest-control programs. free for personal use antivirus tool: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php free for personal use spybot/adware detection & removal tools: http://www.safer-networking.org/ http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ After you finish running those, try uninstalling your mouse then reinstalling it. From the sound of things (at this point) your mouse works fine with the Windows default drivers (as in SafeMode) but not with whatever "fancy" drivers the manufacturer provides.
