Office & msconfig
Hi all,
Anyone know why MS Office is in Msconfig as a default after installing office; and just what is it that Office does as startup? (office 2000 and win98se in this case, if that is useful info.) In my startup menu in ie, I only have 'New & Open' Office Document.... never paid much mind to them to be honest. Gekko |

Office & msconfig
Bob & Haggis,
First, let me apologise, I have given you mis-information, my bad. I should have been relating to 'startup' and Not 'start menu'. In startup is "Microsoft Office".(startmenu had the other two.) In regard to F/F, I thought I had it disabled, but its been so long since; What is the general concensus here regarding having it ticked in msconfig? or is there another view regarding removing it from startup in ie? Gekko you mean osa.exe ? this is for office 2003 but still applies http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826318 Gekko, that osa.exe is in "startup" (I guessed about the other two you mentioned , they get added automatically to "start menu") "Office Startup Assitant" I have always just removed it from startup to keep the boot time down (it takes an extra second or two to start an office app without it , no biggie in my books) msconfig is generally for troubleshooting , not for a final "fix" ..... I remove F/F from startup and delete the database in control panel (normally I had taken great pains NOT to install it at all) cheers! |

Open MSconfig and click on the startup items tab 2. Open Regedit and navigate to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Sharedtools/MSconfig 3. Compare the list of registry keys under startupfolder and startupreg with their counterparts in msconfig. 4. Delete the keys which are no longer valid. I am looking into this ...there should be a reg key to delete "somewhere" ....check back : |

That's where I thought it would be - but I've just gone to those parts of the registry, and there's no key for it there, or anywhere else relevant for that matter (only things like installer and MRU entries). -- Regards Nigel Stapley www.judgemental.plus.com reply-to will bounce |
