Screen grapahics herky-jerky
My friend has a new ECS L7VMM3 MOBO (Athlon Duron 3100+) with 256M
DDR. The MOBO has onboard audio/video. She uses a Logitech optical mouse. When she plays her various solitaire games (she loves solitaire), as the rapid card movements occur, they seem to stop and start continually, like they are hanging up slightly. Manual card movements with the mouse seem okay. Where would the problem most likely be? Do you think the onboard graphics simply cannot handle the solitaire graphics? Is 256M DDR insufficient? I have an identical setup destined for one of my kids, and although I do not have my friend's solitaire game, I detect no similar problem(s) with the graphics that I have. I could use some help here. Thank you. |

Screen grapahics herky-jerky
What have I done?
I just posted a query about herky-jerky graphics using a ECS L7VMM3 MOBO (Athlon Duron 3100+) with 256M DDR. The MOBO has onboard audio/video. I did notice a slight hesitation on my machine in the graphics in solitaire, so I went into the BIOS and set 'shared memory' from 32M to 0. Now the darned thing won't boot up at all (black screen). Boy that wasn't something I should have done, huh? I guess you call that failures to 'post'? Anyway, now I get two beeps, followed by 8 beeps, then two beeps, then nothing. I am desperate. Delete key will not get me into the BIOS. In fact no keyboard key gets any response. Someone please help. I found the MOBO default-reset jumper, Whew!
Solitaire graphics still slightly herky-jerky. Thanks anyway. ================================================= What have I done? well, now you've done it. Because you selected to have no system memory shared, now the integrated graphics has no RAM to use to display images. As far as your computer's BIOS is concerned, you have no video(specifically no video memory, no video memory equals no boot). The only time you would want to set it to zero shared memory is if you install an AGP or PCI graphics add-in card, as they have their own memory. Now, since you cannot even access the BIOS, you must reset the CMOS. Since you have a newer mainboard, reseting the CMOS will probably only involve setting a specific jumper. Removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes usually does the trick as well. Visit mainboard manufacturer's website for detailed instructions of reseting the CMOS in your computer's BIOS. Resetting the CMOS is what you must do. It's no big deal really,,all the BIOS settings will be back to default, you will need to reset the date and time. Your computer's BIOS should default back to 32megs of shared memory and allow you boot up windows so you can get back to solving your original display problem. -----Original Message----- What have I done?
