I can use the comp all day long without this happening but when the latter
was being done it just shuts down , is this because the memory is low. the
lap top is a Toshiba A30 satellite if that helps . The computer used to be
able to play games sutch as civi 3 but wount even play the simple games any

This could be due to a number of reasons - the most serious being
overheating of the CPU

First try clearing out your 'rubbish'
reboot and immediately go to the C:\Windows\Temp folder, and delete
everything you find there(except for the folder itself).
Then go to Internet Properties - the General tab
in the Temporary Internet Files section, click on "Delete Files" - and put a
check in the 'delete offline content' box that'll pop up - click OK, and
wait for control to return
Then click on 'Settings...', and adjust the amount of disk space available
to the TIF to 40MB
OK out, and reboot again
Now do a ScanDisk and Defrag.
then try playing your games - has that helped?

If not, then you may have blocked the airways for ventilation of your
laptop - and that's something that's probably best dealt with by a
professional, rather than at home (I try to avoid opening laptops as much as
possible!), but if you have access to clean compressed air you could try a
light blow around the ventilation holes of the PC while it's switched off ,
and see what comes out.
