Can't get rid of shortcut overlay arrow.
Long time no see, Tevi! I take it you haven't used Win98 in a while, as the ability
to remove the shortcut arrow was broken by the update mentioned in this article, which was released some time ago: Unchecked Buffer in Windows Shell Could Lead to Code Running http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=313829 Some folks used the workaround of removing the IsShortcut registry value for .lnk files in this key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile However that leads to an unwanted side-effect of duplicates in the context menus from shortcuts. See= Duplicate context-menu entries when you right-click a shortcut: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/dupcontexts.htm The preferred method, which is supposed to work on Win9x (I have not tried it) is described here= Remove or modify the arrow used on shortcuts in Windows XP: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/arrow.htm and here= Customizing The Shortcut Arrow: http://www.activewin.com/tips/reg/explorer_6.shtml Hope this helps...... -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Tevibear" wrote in message ... Hey all, I am having a heck of a time getting rid of the arrow shortcut overlay on my desktop icons. I installed Tweak UI and changed the arrow to none, but it still shows the stupid overlay arrows anyway no matter what I do. I even tried some registry tweaking, but to not avail. Does anyone know all of the keys or settings I need to make those freaking arrows go away for good? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tevibear |

... Thanks Glee. I'll try it out. Good to see you are still around and that you remembered me. Heck, I still have your old AOL email addy in my address book, from the "olde days" in the Win95 groups. I don't do the computer thing anymore. I build parts for Boeing Comercial Airplanes now. Cool! That's why it's been so long since I messed around with computers. Well, you had a real knack with computers, so hopefully we will see ya around once in a while. Thx again, Tevibear No problemo. ....glen -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm glee wrote: Long time no see, Tevi! Can't get rid of shortcut overlay arrow.
Thx. I'll try to make an appearance once in awhile. I am tring to get
back into it. I have a high speed internet connection now, so things are easier than before. Finding the time is the hard part now. I work a swing shift, so I sleep until the cows come home. Then I wake up and go right back to work, it seems. I have been on mandatory overtime for over a month, so I am smashed. Cya around, Tevibear glee wrote: "Tevibear" wrote in message ... Thanks Glee. Can't get rid of shortcut overlay arrow.
This tweak in "FreshUI" from Fresh Devices works real well. It's free.

Can't get rid of shortcut overlay arrow.
On Sun, 18 Dec 2005 13:13:06 -0800, Tevibear put
finger to keyboard and composed: I don't do the computer thing anymore. I build parts for Boeing Comercial Airplanes now. That's why it's been so long since I messed around with computers. Please reassure us that Boeing doesn't rely on Microsoft for its software. :-) - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |
