Config and autoexec
These files are not required by Windows 98, unless you have installed an
application or device that has some special requirement for them. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Milton Banana" wrote in message ... Another one. Do I need to load autoexec.bat and config.sys at startup? There doesn't seem to be anything useful in these anyway. Is it ok to disable them in selective startup? Thanks C |

If you do a "Custom" install of AVG, instead of choosing "Typical", you can select or deselect the boot scan option. You can also REM the line in autoexec.bat to disable the AVG boot scanner. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm |

That simply runs the startup version which checks some system files..watch
what it says when it boots. Checking the MBR is]probaly also part of that process. "glee" wrote in message ... "FACE" wrote in message ... Alternatively, perhaps if you have taken the Typical install, you can go in afterwards and remove Boot sector and/or Partition MBR from your "Systems Areas Test Settings" and effectively delete it. Thanks C As Jeff says, if you have any 'legacy' [old] programs that you're still using, you might need them. I need autoexec.bat for my elderly and useful Paradox database. The other thought is that, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. s. |
