I want to do a clean install of Windows ME on a floppyless computer. Is there
a way to create a startup cd or usb drive. |

There are a number of ways of creating a bootable CD with details usually
part of the burning application in use. For example Nero has the option to create a bootable CD-ROM and requires a source of bootimage data which can be either a bootable logical drive (such as a bootable floppy placed in A or an image file for which it provides a copy (DosBootImage.ima). On the few occasions I've needed to create a bootable CD I've used Nero and one or other of these two options. Most methods start by using a bootable floppy however given the changes that were introduced with Win Me it could be as simple as just copying io.sys and command.com copy from your %windir%\command\ebd folder. Note io.sys MUST be a copy of the file in the command\ebd folder, not that in the root of your boot partition. -- Mike Maltby u2 wrote: I want to do a clean install of Windows ME on a floppyless computer. You can download iso's of bootable CD's -
look here http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/iso.html Normally, use the standard WinMe_bootdisk.iso -- Noel Paton CrashFixPC Nil Carborundum Illegitemi www.crashfixpc.co.uk "u2" wrote in message ... Installing from cd is easy. You can even do it with standalone DOS versions
and Windows 3.1, for example. Obviously you have the Win Me installation files and the ability to burn a cd. All you need otherwise is an image of the floppy (a Windows 98 one will do) that includes the option to load 'cd-rom support' and a program such as Nero. You select to burn a Boot CD (or 'CD-ROM [Boot]'), select 'Floppy Emulation', then point the image dialogue to said floppy image. Drag the Win Me files across and burn it. Then when you boot from the cd it is as if you were booting from A: and you run the same commands as you would if you were using a real floppy. http://www.nu2.nu/bootablecd/ is a very good place to look, or to remember for furture reference. External floppy drives (3.5") are very cheap. Under $25. Even 5.25"s are
still available forinternal installation if you have an empty slot. -- I mastered Wordstar graphics! "u2" wrote: I want to do a clean install of Windows ME on a floppyless computer. Is there a way to create a startup cd or usb drive. |
