Default Bios problem

I have a HP Pavillion 612 running win 98 SE that in an attempt to remove a
program interrupting the sound card, I believe I deleted the monitor driver.
On startup I get one long followed by two short beeps. The hard drive and CD
ROM spin, I get two more short beeps and the monitor shuts down. Therefore, I
never see any information. I have researched these beep codes and read posts
describing securing the video card cables/connections, but I have a chipset
that I did actually assure is snug to the motherboard. This generated no
change. Does anyone have an idea as to a next step?

first off, you did not tell us what your manual said the beep codes mean...
however for the most part the two big possibilities are video or ram...
so you should remove your ram and video card and reseat it
and try again.

1. Whether your monitor hardware is OK or not, you
cannot damage it by uninstaling software from the main
board.
To test your monitor, exchange it for a monitor known
to be working OK. If you get the same results, the
fault is in the PC.

2. You need to find out the meaning of the POST sound
codes.

There is no video "card", it is a small box. Should I try removing that?

if it's "on-board" video don't fool with it...
it's probably a ram error...
but you better consult your manual!@!!

Check your ram modules and make sure they are securely seated. Removing
any device should not result in the system not booting. You may also want
to run diagnostics on the ram overnight with:

That beep code on an Award BIOS indicates a "display card or monitor connected
error".

Check your monitor connection to your PC.
Go into the BIOS and see if you can find out where the you can select the video
or monitor, probably in something like PCI Plug and Play section.
What was the program you were removing and how did you go about it?
