The ,SYS files are available for download from here
http://www.usbman.com/Drivers%20and%20Patches.htm
although the usbauth.sys file link appears to be broken - it should be
http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/Win...es/usbauth.sys

(the only difference being the upper-case D in WinDrivers)

Have you checked your recovery disk? Look for a folder called Win9x and
see if that contains the Win Me cab set. The problem here is that
recovery disks are produced by the computer manufacturer's rather than
Microsoft and their composition varies. Since you received a recovery
disk with your PC when you bought it and this can be used to restore the
PC to the state it was in when purchased the company concerned has
fulfilled their obligations to Microsoft.

As for solving you more immediate problem, I have no other suggestion.
At one time the driver files required for Win Me to install usb 1 ports
were available for download from the net (from a third party site, not
Microsoft) but that is no longer the case. They have either been removed
because of copyright problems or because Win Me is now getting on a bit
with many less users than four or five years ago. You could of course
contact the computer manufacturer as they are legally obliged to provide
support for Win Me as part of their contract with Microsoft.

Are you really certain about that? Is it perhaps in a folder on a
different partition? If you really don't have BASE2.CAB and the
rest of the Win Me cab files then you really have been screwed by
the company that manufactured your PC - I just hope I never buy one
from the same company. Unlikely of course as I build my own but such
deliberate action by the company is disgraceful.

Well, when I was trying to install this thing and it kept asking for
the WIN-ME cd, that is exactly how I felt! I paid for a legit copy
of the OS and it should be available to me. Of course, that was 4
years ago. Live & learn.

Anyway, I just searched again and no dice. The cab files are probably
on the system recovery disks but they're not accessible unless you
know where they are.

So now what?

Thanks for the heads up here. I found all the files I needed and put
them with the system DLLs. I removed the device, restarted the computer,
and windows found everything. It was very smooth.
