Default connecting to internet

When I try to connect to the internet, I'm getting an
error message 'no dial tone, check phone line' but the
phone works from that line when it's plugged in. I checked
the modem in the control panel and I think the .inf files
are outdated.Any advice on how to update these files or to
get the error message problem solved? Thanks in advance
for the help.

I don't know what country you're in but I can sometimes get that problem
if a message has been left on BT's answering service, just clear the
messages and it will connect with no problems.

IS THE PHONE CORD PLUGED INTO THE RIGHT MODEM PORT?
DID YOU JUST RECENTLY MADE CHANGES TO YOUR INTERNET
CONNECTION? DO YOU HAVE THE CORRECT DRIVER FOR YOU MODEM
AND IS IT CONFIGURED CORRECTLY? ARE YOU ABLE TO QUERY
YOUR MODEM?

IF YOU ANSWER YES TO ALL OF THE ABOVE, AND STILL NOT
WORKING, THEN TRY THESE OPTIONS ONE AT A TIME; INSTAL THE
CORRECT DRIVER, DISABLE MODEM FROM DEVICE MANAGER, TURN
PC OFF, REMOVE MODEM FROM SLOT, CLEAN IT THEN SECURE IT
BACK IN SLOT, PLUG PHONE CORD IN, TURN PC BACK ON, HAVE
YOUR MEDIA W/DRIVER READY WHEN PC GIVES THE MESSAGE THAT
NEW HARDWARE WAS FOUND - IF YOU WERE ABLE TO REINSTAL
MODEM SUCCESSFULLY, IT SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO; OTHERWISE,
HAVE IT CHECKED BY TECH PERSON.

GOOD LUCK
