Can old .dbx files be implanted into reinstalled Outlook Express?
I had a hard drive go bad, and before it completely went out I quickly
copied as much as I could of the drive to my D drive. The old C drive is now inaccessable unless I were to pay big bucks to some h/d retrieval service. I've gotten a new drive and reinstalled Win98SE. I have the old .dbx files contained within the old identity folders including various saved messages, newsgroups, etc. and find that they can sort of be read with Wordpad, but with a lot of "noise" code. Is there some way to move these old .dbx files to the new, reinstalled OLE and have them be readable once again within OLE? All input is appreciated. |

If you included folders.dbx, then a simple File | Import | Messages |
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 (follow the prompts) should work. See Backup & Resto http://www.insideoe.com/backup/ -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ wrote in message oups.com... And if that File Import function doesn't work, you could try copying all
those dbx files to the OE folder set up on your new drive, delete folders.dbx, and let OE rebuild it. I've had success importing the mail messages and folders, but it didn't
include the newsgroup messages. Is there a way to import the old newsgroup folders via the .dbx files? |

Newsgroups neither import, or export. Only the account settings do, unless
you had cloned your identity beforehand. As of now, all you can do is resubscribe. Sorry for your loss, but less of an impact than if you had lost your mail. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ wrote in message oups.com... You can try the method in the last paragraph on this page to import
individual dbx files (www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx), which should also work for NG files. You can also extract the messages using DBXpress (www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/) and then drag them into an OE local folder. steve wrote in message oups.com...
