backing up to a cd
I am getting a new computer and need to back up just my "data files" onto
CD's? How do I do this and how do I know what files are the data vs. all the other junk on there. I have Windows 98 and am going to Windows XP on a new computer. |

The best way to do this is to use the file and settings transfer wizard that
is supplied with the new computer. The documentation for the procedure will be part of the help system in the new machine. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "PattiChati" wrote in message news I am getting a new computer and need to back up just my "data files" onto CD's? I have Windows 98 and am going to Windows XP on a new computer. One method of sorting would be by date. Most of your data files are probably less than one year old and most of your apps more than a year old. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

When I use the Windows 98 backup - it doesn't give me stuff by date. I
thought the data has a certain extension name vs the other stuff. Also, I don't even know how to put photos on a CD - any help there? Thanks. How can this work, I can only have 1 computer plugged in at a time and all
the information will be on the old computer? Please explain further. Thanks. The file and settings transfer wizard is fully explained in the help that
comes with the new machine. You only need to have both machines running at the same time if you use a network connection to do the transfer. If you use floppy disks or a CD-writer or another device such as a RAMStick then you can do it with only one machine running at a time. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "PattiChati" wrote in message ...
