I ran the most current McAfee VirusScan and haven't received a completed scan - maybe because of the reboots . |

-----Original Message----- My computer reboots itself every 12 minutes. Does anyone know what is going on. .I'd like to restate this problem. When my computer is on and sitting idle, it reboots every 12 minutes. When I am using a program, this doesn't happen. Also when I start up my computer it reboots at least 3 times consecutively before it stays on. |

Also when I start up my computer it reboots at least 3 times consecutively before it stays on. Try booting into Safe Mode. Usually by holding down the ctrl or F8 key during bootup. This should get you to the Startup Menu where you can choose Safe Mode. If it works there, run McAfee while it is in there. It could also be a failing Power Supply Unit or a cpu fan not working properly (mb set to shut down if it isn't spinning fast enough). Then again, you should still be having the problem while you are using it also. You say that it doesn't happen when you are using a program, but in your next post you say that McAfee won't finish because of the shutdown. I would also try disabling the screensaver and any 'hibernation' or power-down management programs, at least temporarily. |

I was able to get McAfee to finish running and it found no infected files. The computer did not reboot while McAfee was running (the earlier message was not correct - I restated my problem and forgot to include that). Scandisk also ran with zero errors. If its a cpu fan, I guess I have to take that in to get fixed? Also diabiling the above mentioned what am i looking for if i do this? |

I can be on the internet, or run programs for more than an hour and it wont reboot. Then shortly after my computer sits idle (while still on of course) it reboots itself. Last time it reboot after about 9 minutes. I'm so frustrated. |

-----Original Message----- |Sorry I spelled disabiling wrong...but you got it! Thanks for the suggestions...I'll keep working at it. Also diabiling the above mentioned what am i | looking for if i do this? Oh!... 1. Turn off screen saver (R-Clk Desktop, Properties, Screen Saver-- None) 2. Turn off power management (Control Panel, Power Management-- Always On,Never,Never,Never) 3. Suspend Task Scheduler Any of those can have something set to run when the machine is idle for a period of time. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR wrote in message ... | | -----Original Message----- | | "CarolK" wrote in | message | ... | | -----Original Message----- | My computer reboots itself every 12 minutes. | Does anyone know what is going on. | .I'd like to restate this problem. | When my computer is on and sitting idle, it reboots | every | 12 minutes.
