Default USB hanging problem

I changed the printer on the 98se machine and also removed the scanner. The
PC hangs on start-up on the sky windows98 screen.

The only way to get it to start is to go into the device manager before
shutting down and remove the usb hub. It then starts ok and installs the
hub, printer and modem.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try viewing http://www.usbman.com/ and scroll down to you see your operating
system listed on the left hand of the page. If you can't fix the problem
from this site, then I don't think that you will, other than a complete
reload!

Try booting up with the printer unplugged...

and if it boots...just plug the printer in once windows loads

Start the computer in Safe mode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly during
bootup, then go to "Control Panel", "System", "Device Manager", expand
"Universal Serial Bus controllers" and see if there are any unused printer
or scanner drivers. If so, remove them, then restart normally.

Not the answer. Actually, when I had the scanner attached I had to have the
scanner pluged in for it to start. I could then unplug it and plug in
cameras, MP3 players etc.

Enable a bootlog by hitting F8 during bootup and then selecting logged
mode from the menu. This will create a bootlog.txt file in your root
directory.

Could it be that Windows hangs when attempting to load an orphaned
..vxd scanner/printer module ??? If so, then hopefully the last lines
of bootlog.txt will identify it.
