Default Lost Product Key

I have an older laptop that I have recently revived. I have
the Windows98 installation CD, but I have lost the
certificate with the Product Key on it. I would like to
reinstall Windows, but I cannot get past the screen that
asks for me to enter the product key.

I have not yet formatted the hard drive so I still have the
original installation in place. Is there a way to access
the product key in the current installation?

Is there a way to bypass the product key requirement?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Default Lost Product Key

If Win98 is still running, get it from the Registry with Regedit.exe
The key is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
The value is ProductKey
