Default Windows blue screen error VMM or MSCAN?

My computer suddenly started displaying an error screen with these letters at
the beginning....VMM and MSCAN. I have run a complete virus scan and it came
clean and have tried a system restore....no luck. It does start in safe mode
at this point, but I decided to just do a total system recovery, but it
appears my disc drive is not reading my install discs. Any ideas or help
would greatly be appreciated.....I would really like to be able to fix this
problem without going to a technical person and paying them.

The same exact thing was happening to me and it started after i got an update
from mcafee. I too did a complete system recovery. I contacted Mcafee and
they are trying to tell me it's a windows problem but the is incorrect
because i completely unistalled mcafee and my computer is working fine no
crashes. I believe that last update was corrupt or something but to get
mcafee to admit that and help you to fix it they want to put the blame on
windows operating system. I've had mcafee for years and never had this
problem. If you get an answer let me know too please.

Problems involving MSCAN are usually fixed by uninstalling McAfee and then
either reinstalling McAfee of alternatively moving to an different AV
application that doesn't have issues when installed on Win Me.

I tried that, reinstalling mcafee 3 times each time computer would crash,
blue screen. mcafee had me do a so called complete removal then reinstall
it, but i had to do a system recovery just to get on my computer so i did the
recovery waited a day my computer was fine, then reinstalled mcafee and
computer started crashing. Was told by mcafee that they are constantly
updating, which is true but that mcafee must have found a file on my
operating system and they are both crashes causing my computer to crash but
when i see melissa's post and i noticed this happening after mcafee update i
say it was that update that did it. I'm still trying to work with mcafee to
resolve. If not yes another av.

I am having a simular problem. I didn't associate with Mcafee until I found
this post. Sometimes I have message when I try to shut down that starts with
VFAT (01) and ends with C0048D56. And about 3/4 of the time when I start my
computer I get VMM (01) ending with C0000D0C1. I'll contact Mcafee and see
what they say. After reading the posts I remembered an error message stating
that Mcafee was having trouble updating, which I didn't think anything about,
then I started getting these error messages. Thanks for all of the info.

Thanks for the replies....this makes perfect sense as Mcafee tried to do an
update and failed and this is where my problems began. I just did not tie it
in until now. There has to be an answer besides switching AV programs. My
subscription with Mcafee is not up until Sept. I may call Mcafee as well.

Yes, as mentioned earlier, uninstall, reboot and then reinstall McAfee.

I tried that and as mentioned by someone else's post....it crashed again.
So, I just switched to Norton. I do not have time to waste fiddling around
with it. I have business on the internet to tend to. Thanks for help!
