Of course that isn't normal. My question would be, what is it you do, when it happens? Harry. seems to happen more frequently when i browse the network less often
other times; almost like its waiting for a dll to unload or something. webster72n wrote: Of course that isn't normal. My question would be, what is it you do, when it happens? Harry. With so little to go on, it would be difficult to, nay, impossible to
confidently tell you what is wrong. First suspicion would be a software conflict. Have you added a program lately, or when this problem arose??? Try taking some of your startup programs out of the startup axis and run your computer......effectively, do a 'selective startup.' This is time consuming and a PITA, but, it can help to narrow down the culprit. Another option would be to get a copy of Process Explorer, free from www.sysinternals.com (if the program is no longer free, do a search for the last free version through Google). This program will tell you, in real time, what programs are running and how much cpu, in %, is being used by each. This may pinpoint the culprit, if it is a program issue. Does this happen as you are attempting to scroll or use your mouse in any way??? If so, turn your Hardware Acceleration slider to one notch above none, reboot and try again. If the issue is gone, look into updating mouse and/or video drivers. In my case, when this happened, it was an outdated video card that had to be replaced (no compatible new drivers). My only other suggestion would be to do a thorough AV, malware and spyware scan. Hang in there, this group has many very helpful folks that will be glad to work you through this issue. When you post back, be sure to list what programs you have running, to include background apps, at the time the hang takes place. You seem to be avoiding my question, PT.

It seemed to help a bit, its not hanging up for as long or as often. Its a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop which came with Windows ME. |

Your reply doesn't contain any reference to what you might have done about it, the lock-up that is, unless it's hidden between the lines and somewhat invisible to me. H. PT quoted my reference to moving the Acceleration slider and said it seemed
to help, Harry. PT, if the 'hangs' are still taking place, but, not as often, you may have more than one issue taking place. Have you added any applications that would correspond to the problem beginning?? (this would include updating programs). Will be out of town for the next 4-5 days........maybe a more knowledgeable body will jump in with more suggestions. You may want to give the 'selective startup' a shot.....can't hurt. And have a go with Process Explorer........it will tell you a lot! Heirloom, old and off to west Texas "webster72n" wrote in message ... My question was posed before receiving help, H., to see how PT circumvented the problem on his own, since he seemed to be able to. Obviously it's irrelevant now. Most importantly, progress is being made. Harry. "Heirloom" wrote in message ... PT quoted my reference to moving the Acceleration slider and said it seemed to help, Harry.
