Default missing DLL

Hi, I have two machines with win98 and winME and I tried
to install a software program on one machine and it would
not install it gave me an error message (the D3D8.DLL
file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLLLock CB). So I
tried putting it on the other machine same thing except
it allowed me to install it and when I tried to play it,
I got the same message. So I tried my brothers machine
that has XP on it, it would not even try to install.
Anyone know whats wrong. Maybe a bad game CD. Thank you.

It would appear that you have mixed file versions for DirectX. The file
ddraw.dll isn't missing but rather not the version that is expected by
d3d8.dll. You can check this for yourself by running DXDIAG (the DirectX
diagnostics program) from Start | Run. That is click Start | Run and enter
DXDIAG and then click OK.

If you find you that dxdiag reports problems my advice would be to
download and install the latest version of DirectX (9c) from the Windows
Update site or from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...ds/default.htm

Well mike I tried what you suggested and I did find that
one of the machines did have a problem with the direct
sound so I upgraded to a newer direct x. The software
still will not work right, must be a bad cd. Taking it
back thanks for the help.

Sorry to read you didn't manage to fix the problem. It appears as if the
game might be looking for an older version of Direct X which shouldn't
normally be a problem but seems to be so in this case.
