ME getting very slow
I just ran Cleaner and maybe should have read the instructions before, I guess its in the Help file? I found 534 items and "cleaned" them all...Had to restart, as the first thing I did was to see if the Restore point I had made prior to downloading CC was still there, was told to retart. Seems to have considerably inproved the slow response I had from Me for the last two months. Appreciate any warnings if any, when using CC. ME getting very slow
Always a good idea to create a SR point prior to using ANY registry
cleaner!! - not that I recommend using them at all, except in extremis. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "PAT (Paul)" wrote in message ... ME getting very slow
On Tue, 27 Dec 2005 14:33:50 -0500, richard kelly
I have noticed a considerable slowing down of almost all operations during the past month or so. This is especially noticeable when surfing. If the problem goes away if you isolate the PC (disconnect all networking, Internet, WiFi, etc.) then it's most likely malware activity, direct network attacks e.g.no firewall, or some sort of networking issue such as bad cables or whatever. Pages open slowly and even after they open (and status bar says "done") the cursor remains a thin line and I cannot scroll down. After several seconds, the cursor pops back to its original arrow and I can scroll. What about Windows Explorer, Notepad, other offline apps? It is getting to be very unpleasant to surf. This is true, even when things are faster :-) I have trimmed my startup programs, run Adware, Spybot, Scandisk, Defrag. Severe slowdowns, without stability impact, include... - slow processing due to thermal protection (overheating CPU) - slow processing due to disabled L1/L2 cache, or (old) "Turbo Off" - failing HD retries, with "stuck" mouse, HD LED on (dangerous!) - CPU hogging background task (see Ctl+Alt+Del task list) - waiting for peripheral (try with external devices disconnected) - local resources used by network visitors (try with LAN disabled) - other malware and "live" intrusions, such as via WiFi (kill WiFi) ....and prolly others that I can't think of right now. My resources right now read 44%. Win9x resource heap issues will cause stability problems, not slowdowns without stability impact. Any ideas appreciated. http://cquirke.mvps.org/9x.virtest.htm Clear web caches and limit IE's cache to 20M ---------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - - Don't pay malware vendors - boycott Sony ---------- ----- ---- --- -- - - - - |
