The problem here is that VPC currently only allows a maximum of 16MB on the
video, and doesn't support 3D effects, so gamers are likely to be out of
luck - also VPC doesn't support USB.
Nobody's saying what the next version of VPC will support in terms of
virtual hardware yet, AFAIK - but it will be Vista-compatible.

Hi

Now that microsoft have released Virtual PC 2004 as free software and
also stopped supporting 98 / ME - why not release 98 / ME free also.
This could be in a way of a virtual machine image?

Surely this would encourage some old 98 / ME users to upgrade to XP
and still have the option of old 98 / ME?

On my XP 3200 64 its amazing how fast 98 / ME and 2000 run in virtual
PC. Even had my first crash of 98 when there was no extra software or
drivers even installed - now thats acurate emulation.

Thanks.

Rich

Will the next version of VPC be able to run on Windows XP as well as
Vista? Also, it would certainly be nice if Microsoft upgraded VPC to
handle programs as well as 98SE can.

VPC doesn't 'handle' programs at all! - it enables you to load almost any OS
in to a Windows XP machine at the same time as the main OS.
For instance - I have currently open on this box, Win 98, Win ME and Win XP
Home edition VPC's - as well as the main WinXP Pro install in which VPC is
running

I now understand what you are saying but let us say a program can run in
Windows 98SE but requires 128mb's of video ram --- could you run this
program with VPC and will it run as well?

No - as I said in my original response, VPC can deliver on 16MB of Video
AM - normal RAM, though is effectively unlimited (limited only by the
available hardware RAM - which goes up significantly in Vista, I believe)

This tells about the program--I have not seen anything on MS giving it away.
