Default start up disk

hi all here, is a question! i want to create a startup disk, now im
using win 98 first edition i go to control panel, add and remove
programs click on the start up disk tab, insert floppy, click on button
to make disk it proceeds 30secs later my computer has crashed! never
had this prob before. ive checked through my ms dos files no probs as
far as i can see, so i'am at a lost, any help??

Can you successfully use the floppy drive for other tasks, such as reading a floppy,
or writing a file to a floppy?
