DVD burning programs all hang

Hello there,
I used to run B.H.A. Gold2, PowerProducer Gold 2.0, and
Nero 6 without a problem.
However, recently I installed some new software and it
causes the dvd burning to hang halfway thru.. so half of it
becomes coaster.
Anyways, I deleted the new software and reinstalled all
mentioned software except for the new one and found that
the problem is still there. I do not know whats wrong.
Hwoever, when i reinstalled Nero, it says the 'Auto
Notification is On' that detects when a blank cd/dvd is
being inserted. It says it can cause burning softwares to
hang when its on, so I followed the advice and turned it
off and restarted my comp.
However, the problem is still there.
Please help.
I desperately need to use my burner to burn my presentation.

P.S. I also have another problem with my DVD burner or
perhaps Windows 98SE that im using. whenever I insert a
blank dvd-r, it reads as a 1.9Gb audio cd, but b4 it still
burns fine with this problem. Sometimes it cause problems.
How do I Fix this?

p.s.s i have browsed thru the microsoft database and stuff
and cant find anything so please help for the sake of my
assignments.

Exactly how did you "delete" the software? Did you uninstall it using its uninstall
menu option, or uninstall through Control panel Add\Remove Programs, or did you
only delete the program's folders?
