yep, 20 this time for me, but each time I acquire the number changes lots;
one time its 2 and another it could be... well I see it could be any
number really, with no consistency at all.

Take a peek at the web-access interface for this newsgroup and you'll have
an idea how badly FUBAR'ed the servers have been since the morning of the
23rd:

Interesting....when I go there, this thread is listed, but if I click it,
it states there are no posts available in the thread. Other threads are
off also....one I am involved in currently (flash stick driver problem) has
20 posts, but the web access states only 12.....uh, now it states only 2.
Ah, now *this* thread ceased to exist altogether!

What a mess the web interface *continues* to be.....

I see brief & promising flashes of new posts/replies ("Community Content
Unavailable") but 10 minutes later, it's back to square one. In Win98 General,
the most recent thread showing is "flash stick driver prob for 98" from the very
early morning hours of 23 Dec-08.

Wonder what team of apes has been running the server farms since then? NB:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums has not been affected: Wonder if that
team of apes might help out?

PS: This does NOT bode well for "cloud computing," does it? eg

sarcasm Oh, it's "cloud" computing? Silly me, it looks more like clod computing.
It must be the Holiday Fill-in Ape Team. Hopefully soon they will return the

I think it may be that Microsoft has opened its DNS and other servers for
other use [REAL dumb idea, same for amazonaws and Yahoo] see my other post
today.

Might also want to checkout the issues with MS SQL.... big problems..

Has anyone else noted this problem with this win98 newsgroup recently, where
you routinely check in to look at messages (as a subscribed newsgroup), and
it often says something like "14 not downloaded...", yet there really is
nothing to download at this point in time? (but if you've waited awhile,
you will see and get new messages, so that part still works, at least)

I haven't seen that, but I saw that before xmas there were some
newsgroups-websites that was missing some posts..

What newsserver are you using? are you using microsofts own newsserver or?
(I haven't got any problem here but I'm using my internetproviders
newsserver allso for microsoft.* -newsgroups and are using opera
and not outlook depress)

And even if you select "Catch Up", and come right back again, it says nearly
the same thing (with 14 messages, or 7, or 3, or whatever number of
messages "not downloaded")? (And "Get Next Headers" has no effect here,
either)

sounds like a broken news-server....

Yep, right now 10 are "not downloaded". THANKS for starting this thread
& saving me from the rigmarole you've gone through! I guess I'll hold
off on all that-- until PA Bear or someone pronounces MS to have solved
it on their end! Then, I'll start with a Catch Up-- IF I see some still
are missing!
