Anti-virus for ME
RTS wrote (in the basically defunct windows ME newsgroup):
Greetings Group. I'm re-installing ME on an old laptop for some legacy software. And was wondering if there any current anti-virus programs that will still work on ME.. I've answered you in the past when you've asked this same question. And my answer is still the same. You don't need to be running any sort of anti-virus software for windows 9x/me. You haven't needed that for at least the past 10 years. There are no browser exploits that are in use today (and quite frankly there may never have been any) that can trip up a 9x/me system and cause it to run exploit code or download secondary viral payload. And I'd be very surprised if there was even any exploit code sent along as an email attachment that you'd be fool enough to execute that would run as intended on a 9x/me system today. Have I explained myself? Got any more questions? And by the way, you'd be better off running win-9x with kernelEx and with some other mods (like the extended ram hack) than you would be running that abortion known as Windows Millenium. |
