internet connection problem

I use windows me and a dial up modem to
connect to the internet; it's a week's time now that I cannot connect to the
internet, the dial-up windows shows up, dials the number, it seems to
connect, i get the "two montitors icon" in the system tray, but there is no
data incoming or outgoing. The internet connection is correct, user name,
password and the likes ( i checked the usual things, I did over and over
again the set up procedure)... but nothing. With windows xp home edition I
use the same internet setting and it works.

WinXP SP2: Go to Start | Run and type
CMD
In the command window type
netsh winsock reset
