Wireless Networking
I live in a small communal living facility with 4 people. Some time
ago I setup a wirless AP. One friends however is still connected with Ethernet cable that is unsightly. So wireless is the way to go. He has an old IBM Aptiva desktop running Windows ME. I installed for him a D-Link DWL-G510. That was easy and it connects with the AP. The problem is ME does not use this to connect to the network. In the configuration settings the DWL-G510 is listed. I have taken to steps to remove the LAN and Modem adapters. The modem is removed from the computer and the integrated LAN disabled in BIOS. I have configured the DWL-G510 for 'Infrastructure' and configured the TCP-IP settings as per this document: http://www.crn.com/white-box/59201759 Problem: Does not connect. IPCONFIG reports only the Ethernet Adapter using the address 169.254.254.95 s/mask 255.255.0.0 It seems to me to be locked into the old config settings somewhere. Can someone help please. |
