Still trying to figure how to play videos
I still want to be able to play YouTubes and other videos online from
Windows 98 using Firefox. An earlier thread talked about the FLV Player, but that doesn't seem to play videos online. It's for saving files to your computer and playing them there. As it is now, if I go to a youtube, there is a message saying I have old version of Flash player. get the latest flash player. But I did install the Flash Player 9 the other day which is supposed to be able to work with W98 and play videos. Can anyone walk me through the steps to acquire this ability? Thanks. Larry |

Still trying to figure how to play videos
Are you sure Flash 9 still works for watching videos on YouTube? I think I
found (at least some) of their videos now require Flash 10. Flash 10 is current, not Flash 9. (I haven't checked whether or not Flash 10 is compatible with Win98, but you could do that). Here's a page from Adobe explaining that Flash 9 will work with unsupported systems including Windows 98. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406791.html |

I thought we were talking about Flash 10? (Which seems to be required
for at least some of the YouTube videos (?) Um, I initially mentioned Flash 9, and you brought up Flash 10 and said it was required, and I was showing to you that Flash 9 is the one that adobe says that older unsupported systems should use. |

Um, I initially mentioned Flash 9, and you brought up Flash 10 and said it was required, and I was showing to you that Flash 9 is the one that adobe says that older unsupported systems should use. Oh. OK, all I can tell you is that I was using Flash 9 not long ago, and when I went to the YouTube website, it had some message about needing to update my flash version, which I did, and after that there was no problem in seeing the video (this was on my WinXP system). So if Adobe doesn't explicitly state that Flash 10 is incompatible with Win98SE (e.g: it states that XP or Vista is required), and you still want to watch YouTube videos, I'd sure give it a try, preferably if you have a image or clone backup of your system, in case to you need to go back to Flash 9. (Or if Flash 10 doesn't work on Win98SE, you could try uninstalling it and reinstalling Flash 9). |
