Default Can't download anything

I have Windows 98. I don't have any viruses. I am unable
to download the Google Toolbar and any other program that
I'd like too. After trying to download something, I get a
blank white screen with a small box (enclosing geometrical
shapes)in the upper left hand corner.

Can anyone help?

Hi,

Although this may not seem as though this will
be the most efficient answer, I would like for you to try
this option of mine: click the start button, go to
the "find" table, highlight and click the files or folders
option, once you've done that type: jdbg.exe and/or
jdbgmgr.exe. If either of those "programs" appear on your
computer, there will be a teddy bear icon, you should
delete them as soon as possible and reinstall(after
uninstalling) Windows on your computer. Even after you've
re-installed WIN98(SE) onto your computer you're going to
have to run the same query to rid your computer of this
program.

Althought the program may have had some useful
purposes at one point, it has become a vantage point for
trojans and other forms of destruction to your computer.

After you have re-installed WIN98(SE) and
evicted the "teddy bear" program(jdbg(mgr).exe) you should
quickly obtain your IP information from various sources:
one being your ISP and the other,if you are using a DSL
adapater or Cable modem, by clicking start, highlighting
and clicking "run". Once you've opened a window for that
option you should type in "winipcfg". Another window will
appear and you should open the scroll box and choosing
your other option(s)*DO NOT USE THE PPP ADAPTER*. Click
the renew all option and then press the ok button if the
proper IP and other codes are in place. If you opted to
try the second option first and it did not work, please
call your local ISP tech support and ask them to 1) guide
you through the process or 2) make a house call to fix
your problem(chances are if you're reading this you've
either already got your PC connected or you're using
another computer to access this information:either is
sufficient).

I hope that helped,

Sandshifter.

Horsehockey!

Do you have documentation for your claims? Because as far as *I* know, there is
not one bit of sense in the suggestions you posted. Pure hoax. Those files are
no more prone to assisting invasion or infection than any others. If you're
intentions are good, please desist from spreading this hoax any further.

Best I can suggest, Maureen, is to run IE Repair. First, restart your system.
Then try closing as much as possible in the System Tray, down by the clock (use
right-click to see what options are offered.) Then go to Start=Run, type in
MSINFO32, click OK, and finally look in the Tools menu for IE Repair. The system
will automatically restart when the Repair is finished.

If that doesn't help, post back. There may be malicious software in play (virus,
spyware, adware) and more serious cleansing and repair may be needed. If you
want to get a head start on that, look through the last couple of days of posts
from me to this forum. I have at least a few times gone into great gory detail
on the subject of "Clean Boot" procedures and various anti-scumware cleansing.

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
