Default Pour Performance All Around

I am running Windows 98 SE on a PII 400 with 256Mb of
RAM. I have recently experienced a long list of problems,
including the following.

1. Windows will not shut down. When I chose to shut it
down, it reboots. Any suggestions?
2. I have recently installed a highspeed internet
providers software and have received "Not enough memory"
errors on a regular basis. I have been using a P2P
program at the same time. Any suggestions?

Is there a possibility that I have a worm? I am not
firmiliar with these and think this is the only possible
way I would be getting the memory error. Am I wrong? I
have thought about formatting the drive, but would like a
less drastic solution.

1. Run msconfig.exe, general tab, advanced button. Mark the "Disable fast
shutdown" box because it can cause shutdown to work too fast and a reboot
results. If the entry does not exist or if it is already marked, MVP Jim
Eshelman has general troubleshooting procedures for W95/98/98SE shutdown
problems at http://www.aumha.org/a/shutdown.htm and procedures for W98SE in
particular at http://www.aumha.org/a/shtdwnse.htm

2. More details like the complete error message verbatim, what is going on
when it occurs, etc., may be helpful.

The best way to determine if you have a worm is to run a full scan with an
up to date anti virus program.

AVG, free AV program: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

ETrust, reasonably priced AV program that I use:

EZ Armor Security Suite, One year free trial :
