Default Can't Get Past Log On Screen

I can't get past the log on screen before the pc freezes
up. Nothing works to unfreeze. I have to reboot then I am
stuck in safe mode. How do I get out of safe mode?

thanks in advance

If it boots in safe mode but not normal mode, something loading in normal
mode must be the culprit. Use the technique described here to see if you
