Default Triple monitor setup

"Frank A." wrote:

I'm wondering if many people that do this are using a typical
decent video card for their main monitor and either the
motherboard's built in video for the flanking ones (usually
1024 x 1280 for a 17" or 768 x 1024 for a 15") or a cheaper
video card.

The trouble is that running in portrait mode (1024 x 1280) is
much harder on the video card than running normally in landscape
(1280 x 1024). But it would be handy not to have to run
another video card for the flanking monitors. The quality
needs of the flanking monitors (for most of us) are minimal
as they are used for reading text 99% of the time.

I'm not aware of any motherboard with two separate on-board video cards
that could be used to drive the flanking monitors.

I don't think I'd ever use monitors rotated into portrait mode, let
alone three of them.

I still believe that the old 4:3 ratio monitors are better suited to
general computing and web-surfing compared to widescreen monitors. I've
got a couple 21" Samsung monitors (1600 x 1200) and they make an awesome
dual-monitor setup.

Given an AGP video card with dual-head output and then a PCI video card
(that's also dual head) you should be able to drive 4 monitors under
win-98.
