Conflict
It started recently - every once a while a message pops up:
" The system has detected a conflict for IP address ( the address starts with 192.) with the system having hardware address (00:OC: etc). The interface has been disabled" When I press OK everything works fine until it pops up again. Sometimes frequently. What is the cause and the cure? Thanks Mike A |

The problem is that two computers on your network are using the same IP
address, which cannot be allowed. The cure is to find the other computer with the same IP address and change it. -- Richard G. Happens to me too, so here is my query... why does it suddenly not like that
our 2 computers run off the same router/modem setup? And doesn't the IP address come for each one from the net? I certainly don't set it, so how can I change it? Thanks for being patient. Richard G. If you're using a router, then set the PC's to find their IP from DHCP -
that will resolve conflicts. Behind a router the IP address of the PC's is hidden from the internet - and is usually in the range 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 (depending on the router). The router supports the Internet-visible IP address. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Antrobus" wrote in message ... Many thanks. I may have it solved. I signed off using hibernate (keeping the
IP?), then my wife signed on with the other unit, then I signed back on and we both got conflict messages. When I rebooted, winipcfg showed my IP bumped by 1 in the last place. Possible explanation? If you use hibernation, then you are logged off the network, and your IP
becomes available for other PC's. When you come out of hibernation, your PC will attempt to reconnect using the same IP it had before - and this may no longer be available, giving rise to a conflict. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2005, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Antrobus" wrote in message news Many thanks.
