Default volume level

i can hear sound from my speakers but cannot make it
louder. at the maximum levels the sound is very faint. i
checked all multi media levels and made sure the mute
buttons were set properly. help!

1. Most pc speakers need to be amplified; you can tell by
the fact that the speaker has an AC plug or an adapter (or
a power button w/ volume)

2. You plugged the speaker into line out instead of
speaker. The speaker socket is amplified by the pc/sound
card; line out is not.

3. If you have a newer pc with onboard sound (ala AC97)
your pc has software that can change the function of the
plugs that the speaker is plugged into. Make sure that the
software is setting socket in question as speaker.

4. Make sure the master volue, wave volume, program volume
(i.e. winamp) and speaker volume are all set high.

Got a volume knob on the speaker itself?
