mshtml.dll
There are a couple of fixes for problems with this module
but they will only apply post-SP1. Well, I am post-SP1 and they will not apply. My browser is at version 6.0.2800.1106 update version SP1 and every time I try to apply the patches I get kicked-out with a rejoinder about getting SP1!! Does no one police these patches to see that they can be applied. So now I have two problems my system is falling over with the mshtml glitch and the MS software does not recognise its own update. Anyone have any ideas? |

Usually the message that *this update requires Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1*
(or similar) is the result of attempting to apply an earlier cumulative update than one already applied (and which is unnecessary because they are cumulative). However, knowing which patch you're talking about might help. Shane "Malcolm Turner" wrote in message ... There are a couple of fixes for problems with this module but they will only apply post-SP1. Hello Shane, yes the reps I am trying to apply (the actual
failure showed up when this Post a New message window appeared) are contained in Q816506 and Q824150, thank you for taking an interest. -----Original Message----- Usually the message that *this update requires Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1* (or similar) is the result of attempting to apply an earlier cumulative update than one already applied (and which is unnecessary because they are cumulative). Malcolm,
Presuming you read the documents associated with those patches and saw the warning about order of installing. Whatever, and whether or not that is relevant: below is a list of all IE6.0SP1 (security) updates since Apr 2003 and the elder of the two patches you're trying to install. I'd be surprised if you don't have any of them installed. But if so, I'd have thought the problem you're trying to correct should have been long since dealt with. When you click Help | About, what update versions are listed? And when did the mshtml problem start? What was installed or done prior to it? Jul 30, 2004 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (867801): MS04-025 Jul 13, 2004 Vulnerability in HTML Help Could Allow Code Execution (840315): MS04-023 Jul 13, 2004 Vulnerability in Task Scheduler Could Allow Code Execution (841873): MS04-022 Feb 2, 2004 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (832894): MS04-004 Nov 11, 2003 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (824145): MS03-048 Aug 20, 2003 Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (822925): MS03-032 Jun 4, 2003 Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (818529): MS03-020 Apr 23, 2003 Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer (813489): MS03-015 Shane "Malcolm Turner" wrote in message ... Wow Shane, you seem to be going to an awful of trouble, I
do appreciate it. The problem started after I updated to SP 1. I run the BT/Yahoo browser as originallt thought that it was something that they were doing. 6.0.2800.1106 and SP 1 is the current version of my browser. I have found a second version of the MSHTML module in the VSM folder that is older that is older and smaller than the one is SYSTEM.7/7/2004 as opposed to 22/06/2004 and 2738 kb against 2730? I will search through your list of patches. -----Original Message----- Malcolm, Presuming you read the documents associated with those patches and saw the warning about order of installing. Shane, I checked the list you sent, some were not
applicable and of the others I ran into the good old SP1 problem. -----Original Message----- Malcolm, Presuming you read the documents associated with those patches and saw the warning about order of installing. Shane, I checked the list you sent, some were not
applicable and of the others I ran into the good old SP1 problem. Yeah. The point I meant to make was that if any of those marked "cumulative" had already been installed - eg by Automatic Updating - you'd be getting the *requires SP1* error message. Likewise if you installed more than one and not in chronological order. You only need the most recent cumulative update. Can you install - or try to install just that one - if you haven't already - and see how, if at all, that affects things? The most recent - 867801 - will start downloading from he http://tinyurl.com/5fc3d. Install offline and with anti-virus turned off. btw did you install IE6.0SP1 off-line? Shane |

The system tried to apply the 0sp1 said it was already
applied and then asked for a reload?? What sort of country am I in now Shane? -----Original Message----- Shane, I checked the list you sent, some were not applicable and of the others I ran into the good old SP1 problem. Yeah. Malcolm,
Have you tried repairing Internet Explorer? In Add/Remove Programs, highlight Internet Explorer, click Remove, select *Repair*. Otherwise, I reckon your best bet might be to revert to the previous version - assuming you still can, ie the requisite files haven't been deleted. In Add/Remove Programs again, highlight Internet Explorer, click Remove, choose the one to restore the previous version (I forget the wording). Assuming that can be done, I should give it a reboot or two, a disk cleanup, run SCANREG /FIX then re-install IE6.0sp1, then go straight to the patch you just tried.
