Thanks for answering my question. Wouldn't it have been better to create
a partion and keep the os's separate?

Definitely.

Sorry if that sounds a bit of a
dumb question I'm a bit of a novice. If I were to install xp I would
prefer to keep the two very much apart from each other. I haven't had
much of a good amount of usage on a xp system with exception to using
the pc at work to surf the net so is xp really that much more stable

XP IS better.

But be sure your run the MS XP Advisor/compatibility test to see if your
system and aps can support it.

and user friendly than 98se?

User friendly is in the eyes of the beholder.

I did consider Me but a friend told me
that was dropped very quickly due to being a very unstable os.

ME is fine. My wife runs it every day.
Major problem was running non-compatible applications.

Is that
correct?

Both OS's in one partition ?-

Uh, yeah. It only had 2 gig open and I wasn't sure if I could
partition-
the-
drive AND keep the data. Besides, I figured I'd have the option to
remove-
98-
later, like you do with Win3.1 when you install 98 or 95. That
didn't-
happen.

Theey are upgrades of very similar OS's

Me too. I can write software, but hardware, well that's a new concept.

I do too, and if I had my druthers, I'd have had two identical hard disks in a
removable drive drawers; one disk wired with 98, one wired with XP, and maybe a
third wired up with Linux. To change OSes you simply power down, pull the
drive, put in the disk for the operating system you want, and fire it back up.
I bought my original drive drawers for $10 each at a used parts shop. They can
be had for about 2-3 times that new. I still haven't installed it in my 'puter,
but that's because I don't have two identical disks and I don't want to have to
update the BIOS settings each time I change the disk.

It's also great data security. You can pull all the disks and keep them under
lock and key if you like.
