Default RG.cab files

Recently I searched my full name as a text search on my WinME machine .The
result was
10 RGxxxxxxxxxx.cab files and the user.dat file and a system.dat file .
Two questions .. I understand the RG.cabs are restore points . Can I safely
delete these files ?
Second , is there a way to remove my full name and snail mail address from
my machine ?

No. If you feel the system restore archive is occupying too much space,
and ten checkpoints suggests it is not, then reduce the space allocated
using the slider provided. The slider is found at System | Performance |
File System | Hard Disk and adjust the restore slider to your preferred
setting. A figure of 200MB is normally more than adequate for day to day
use allowing perhaps a week of checkpoints to be available although
increasing this to perhaps 400MB for a few days during periods of large
installs such Microsoft Office is advisable. If you wish to remove all
current checkpoints, and I would not advise you to do this, then reset
system restore ( System | Performance | File System | Troubleshooting,
check "Disable System Restore", immediately reboot and then back to
Troubleshooting and uncheck "Disable System Restore" and once again
reboot)

Do you mean in Outlook Express? In which case delete it from your address
book. If you don't mean in OE where are you seeing your snail mail
address? Your name however can be present in many locations depending on
details entered when installing the operating system and any programs you
have installed.

Please try reading the reply I posted. If that is too complicated then
please explain your problem. For example if you wish to dispose of your
computer and remove all trace of your ownership format the hard disk and
reinstall the operating system and applications.

Mike , Your reply is not complicated at all . Maybe I wasn't clear . The text
I want to edit out of those files is
my full name . I did a text only search of my full name and the results were
the files
I originally listed . Does anyone know how to edit that information out of
them ?

My reply was clear, please read it again. I explained how to clear the
_RESTORE archive. Your problem is due to entries in the registry placed
there when you installed or used your applications. I have explained how
to deal with that. I would strongly recommend that you do NOT edit the
registry (the files user.dat, system.dat and classes.dat) unless you know
exactly what you are doing as it is extremely easy to make either the
system or an installed application unusable if you delete or change the
wrong key or value. If you really do want to remove all traces of your
having used the PC I have already suggested how to proceed, format and
reinstall alternatively seek professional local help.

If however you still want to remove the unwanted entries yourself then the
tool to use is Regedit. Use this at your peril and make certain that you
have backed up the system before starting. Do NOT disable or clear the
system restore archive until you have finished editing the registry,
rebooted the system and checked that all of your installed applications
still work.

Best of luck.
