Win 98 SE & Internet Explorer
I downloaded some malware or spyware on my PC. OS-Windows
98 SE. After running Spy-Bot countless times, still no fix. Spy-Bot does, however, find 1 entry of DSO Exploit every time it runs. Can this bug rejuvinate itself? I also have Ad-aware 6.181 and have scanned with it many times. Should I continue to run these programs? Will they eventually clean out the spyware? Either way, Internet Explorer will not work... Spybot and Ad-aware will update, but nothing else. Norton, AVG 6.0, or BHODemon cannot update. And Explorer lets me know about every 5 minutes with the same old "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error": Program must terminate for unusual or abnormal reason error. BHODemon shows no abnormalities in the registry. I am unable to get my home page to open "MSN" or any other page for that matter. Explorer makes an effort to open the home page, but freezes up, that is after I ignore the Runtime error that pops up. If I click OK on the error, Explorer shuts down completely. I've read on this forum that reinstalling Windows 98 does nothing to repair this problem. Also, I've disabled JavaScript with no results. I'm so frustrated that I can't see straight. I went back to an earlier version of Explorer and still no luck. Please help me find the answer. Thank you so much. |

Try running Ad-Aware and SpyBot in Safe Mode:
-Start the computer and hold down the CTRL key till the Windows 98 Startup menu (boot menu) appears. -Use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" and press Enter. Download, unzip, and run Hijack This from one of these locations: http://computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...HijackThis.exe Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log somewhere you can find it (Desktop, My Documents, or similar). Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet. Copy the log files and paste them into a new post at one of these forums: http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 http://computercops.biz/forums.html In your post, please state your problem clearly and what you've done so far to fix it. The folks there will tell you what to remove. See the "housekeeping" you should complete before you post your log: http://aumha.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4075 A tutorial for using Hijack This is located he http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/ -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm wrote in message ...
