MSVCP60.DLL
When Windows 98 first boots up I get an error message:
Error Starting Program A required .DLL file, MSVCP6060.DLL, was not found. After clicking okay, program continues normally. How can I resolve error message? Thanks for your help! |

What program is opening at Windows startup, that is looking for the file?
MSVCP60.DLL is not a Windows file....it comes with MS Office, and other apps. If you have Office installed, you may need to reinstall it, or ask this question on an Office group. You can also search online at www.google.com for "MSVCP60.DLL download", and save it to your Windows\System folder. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Nancy" wrote in message ... Thank you for your help! I'm not sure which program is
looking for the file - this computer does not have office installed. I brought this computer in for service and they installed a different hard drive but didn't debug this problem. I have a feeling they just gave me some used hard drive lying around because a fax program I had not seen before loaded on start up until I disabled it. Actually, I found the MSVCP60.DLL file in multiple places on my other computer. They each had the same byte size but different file last modified dates. Can I just copy one of these and put it on the other computer? -----Original Message----- What program is opening at Windows startup, that is looking for the file? I have but one copy, in my Windows\System folder.
In the system on am on right now, I have MSVCP60.DLL 6.00.8972.0 October 03, 2002 392KB Go by the version number, not the date....higher number, newer file. Sure, copy one of those to your machine, into the Windows\System folder, and see if it helps. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Nancy" wrote in message ... Thanks Glen- It worked like a champ! I did have one other
question for you. I am actually fixing this computer for my Mom. I noticed when I shut down the computer, the monitor remains on and a blank greyish/black screen appears which I guess means the monitor is no longer receiving a video signal (although the monitor indicator light remains green), but the computer does not actually power down. I press the computer power switch and the computer powers down and the monitor indicator light goes from green to yellow. I called my mom and queried her on how it used to shut down and she said it gave her the "It is now safe to shut down your computer screen" upon shutdown, then she pushed the power switch. I powered up and down several times and never got a shut down error or scan disk on start up so I assume it is operating okay. Why is it no longer showing the "It is now safe to shut down your computer screen?" (Keep in mind the hard drive was changed out but its the same motherboard and the old OS was Windows 98 also).Do you think there is an underlying problem I need to address or just let a sleeping computer lie? Thanks again for all your help!!!!! Nancy -----Original Message----- I have but one copy, in my Windows\System folder. That screen is actually a bitmap image contained in a file named LOGOS.SYS, in the
Windows folder. See if the file is there...if it isn't, that's the problem. Even if it is there, it may be corrupted. Extract a new copy from the Windows CD (or the .cab file location on the hard drive), to the Windows folder, using the "Extract one file" option of System File Checker (SFC). Thanks Glen! I loaded logos.sys into paint and the bitmap
looked fine. Of course any embedded code could've been messed up but I decided rather than extracting the file and inviting more trouble, I'll just leave it alone. It shuts down and starts up just fine anyway... Thank you again for all your help and God Bless! Hmmm....curious that the image doesn't display, though. The logos.sys file is 127KB
in size, on its properties sheet, is it not? You could certainly try extracting a new copy of the file from the Windows CD (or from the .cab file location on the hard drive, if they are there)....I have a feeling the reason may lie elsewhere, though. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm wrote in message ...
