Last Rites for Win9x
1. Warm up that tinfoil hat - you'll need it.

This is just one side of the story. Since the design of Win 98, 911 occurred. Since the design of Win 98, DRM has come and remains. Important design objectives of XP addressed both of these goals by making it easier with backdoors for governments to get into computers to "find Osama" and for business interests to monitor and police what people are doing on their computer. The superior security mechanisms of XP by one hand to close it up mean nothing when the other hand is opening it up. |

Last Rites for Win9x
Amen.
I only recently upgraded to WinXP. There's nothing wrong with Win98 for people who only use it for email, newsgroups, their favorite games/software. Lack of MS support will not affect them. They have no need for MS support. "Phil R" wrote in message ... "Gary S. Terhune" wrote in : I assume someone already posted this at least once. But just in case... Nearly fifteen years ago, they made a similar announcement for DOS WordPerfect. No more support. Today, thousands of users, especially in the legal profession, continue to use it. It works and does what people need. You can do things quicker and easier with the function key interface instead of Windows dialog boxes. The Windows version still doesn't do some things the DOS version does, relative movements for one. I see a similar pattern with Win98. "Alleged" manufacturer support will prove to have limited relevance to what people actually do. |
